Up to two house-trained dogs are welcome at any home on this page, with a $125 pet fee. Every pet has to be authorized by our management company before arrival — not because we want the paperwork, but because the owner of each home has agreed to dogs specifically, and we hold them to that.
The flip side is worth stating plainly rather than burying: bringing a dog to a home that is not marked pet-friendly carries a minimum $1,000 fine and eviction. It is the one house rule we cannot be flexible about, because several of these owners accept dogs only on the condition that the non-pet homes stay genuinely pet-free for guests with allergies.
Only the 19 homes listed on this page qualify. If a property is not here, it does not accept pets, however well-behaved the dog.
Big Bear is a walking town in the parts that matter. The Village is compact enough to cover on foot, the national forest starts where the residential streets end, and the lake shore is long enough that you are rarely competing for space. For a dog that spends the rest of the year on a city sidewalk, the change of surface alone is the holiday.
Two things to plan around. Altitude affects dogs as it affects people — 6,750 feet means a dog that hikes happily at sea level will tire sooner and drink more, so carry water on trails. And summer afternoons get hot and the ground gets hotter; early morning and evening are the sensible windows for a long walk.
This is the one piece of advice we give every guest arriving with a dog, and it is worth more than any amenity on this page. Big Bear is not a suburb with trees — it is a mountain environment with real wildlife, and coyotes are common and entirely unbothered by residential streets. A dog left alone outside, or able to get outside, is at genuine risk here in a way it would not be at home.
A dog shut in an unfamiliar house alone is also the most likely cause of the barking, scratching and damage that ends up costing you money and costs us a neighbour's goodwill. Take them with you where you can, and where you cannot, plan the day around it.
These homes run from 1 to 7 bedrooms and sleep up to 16. 12 also have a private hot tub and 19 have a fireplace. 4 are within about a mile of the slopes, which matters more than it sounds when you are coming back mid-afternoon to let the dog out.
On fenced yards, we would rather be useful than confident: it varies by house and we do not hold reliable fencing data for every property, so if a secure yard is what decides your booking, call us on (909) 966-5667 and we will check the specific home rather than have you guess from photos.
